Cruise Ships – Thrills at Sea with P&O

Cruise lines that cater for family holidays are busy amping up the adrenaline and offering a variety of heart-thumping activities  on board.

This post will look at what P&O has on offer with further posts over the next few days looking at Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean International and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Cruise Ships – Thrills at Sea with P&O Waterslides on Pacific Explorer

P&O CRUISES

Waterslides & waterpark – included in fare
P&O Edge Adventure Park – additional cost, varies depending on activity

Pacific Dawn was the first P&O ship to get the waterslide treatment.  Disco Diver & Super Slider claim to being the longest slides on an Australian ship.  Both are around 80m.  One is transparent and the other is multi-coloured with music pumping through it.  Pacific Explorer also has two waterslides, one with the lights & sounds and the other with more twists & turns.

All of the P&O Ships that cruise out of Australia & New Zealand (Dawn, Explorer, Jewel, Eden & Aria) have the P&O Edge Adventure Park with up to 19 different activities.  You can zoom down a zip line, race to the top of the ship in a cargo net race and abseil down the 10m aft funnel.

If that isn’t enough, there are also Bungee Tramps, tight rope walking without the heights on Slackline Surfing OR you can battle it out in a game of Laser Tag.

If heights are your thing, you can walk the plank, scale to the top of the outdoor movie screen, clime the ships bow, ascend to the crow’s nest and complete a 3 meter high obstacle course.

Royal Caribbean Returns to Brisbane

Royal Caribbean Returns to Brisbane

More exciting news for the Brisbane cruise market.  With the opening of the new cruise ship terminal, Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas will be home porting there from November 2020.

The ship would be the largest to homeport out of Qld, offering about 20 departures during the inaugural season between Nov 2020 and Apr 2021.

Royal Caribbean International MD Australasia, Susan Bonner, said returning to Brisbane was a central component of the company’s Qld growth plans.  “There’s a reason why Brisbane is the fastest growing homeport for cruising in Australia.

“With unrivalled new infrastructure, we believe Queensland-based cruising has an enormous future for local, interstate and international guests,” Bonner said.

Radiance of the Seas will arrive in Brisbane fresh from a multi-million dollar makeover during a scheduled dry-dock stay in 2020.

Full details of her deployment are said to be released soon.
